Not sure what design elements to include on your candles? Or how many candles you need to order?

It is perfectly normal to feel overwhelmed when planning your wedding tablescape and styling elements. After all, this is a very special time with lots of important decisions to make. Rest assured, we have put together some of the most frequently asked questions to help guide you through all stages of our wedding candle design process.

  • How many wedding candles do I need?
Before you start planning your candle quantity, it is important to know your table map (reception table quantity, size, and placement). Your event planner should have this for you. Start by mapping in your table centrepieces and other styling elements that will require space amongst or alongside drinks and meals. You may choose to pair your candles with floral arrangements and opt for banquet-style dining, so you may need to factor in the spacing needed between candles to ensure a practical and visually appealing table setting. We always recommend discussing your approximate candle quantity with your wedding planner to guide your candles around your map. Once you’ve considered these, you may account for candles needed in other areas of your venue, such as the ceremony space, entrance, bar area and any additional candle placements. You may also choose to hand out candle favours at the end of the reception, or to set aside some candles as keepsakes for your anniversaries. Minimum orders will be discussed personally with us during consultation.
  • Should I choose taper candles or pillar candles?
Whether you choose to decorate your reception tables with whimsical taper candle centrepieces, or large pillar candles that visually tell your story, it is important to consider your heights. We always recommend discussing your candle options with your wedding planner to guide your candles around your table map and explore creative ways to incorporate candles into your wedding decor. You may mix and match candles in varying heights and sizes for a dynamic look, or go for a uniform look with all candles the same size and height. Tall taper candles can add height, while pillar candles provide an elegant table setting. You may factor in that the large space on a pillar candle allows for more design and adding in special wedding details that visually tell your story artistically.
  • Should I choose white or ivory candles?
Before you select your candle base colour, we always recommend speaking with your florist to discuss your wedding theme and colours. Ivory candles are a popular choice for couples going for pastels and soft florals, while you may choose white candles to compliment a bright wedding theme. If you would like to discuss coloured candle options to add a pop of vibrancy with yellow, pink, violet, green, and black taper candles, please add this to your enquiry form. All bespoke candles will be colour matched to your wedding colours and theme.
  • When should I enquire?
It is important to allow enough time for consultation, design, painting and delivery of your bespoke wedding candles. To avoid disappointment, we always recommend initially getting in touch around the 4-6 month mark prior to your special day. This will ensure your custom wedding candles arrive by your preferred delivery date - you may also consider pre-booking our studio time. It is important to note that January and February and the summer months are particularly busy times of the year for us, and our design diaries can fill up very quickly.
  • Am I able to request a rush order?
If you require a quicker turnaround time, please enquire for a rush order. Upon receiving your enquiry form, we shall negotiate the prices for such orders, taking into consideration our available inventory, hand painting capacity, scope of work, overtime costs, expedited shipping costs, and/or other additional expenses incurred by us to meet the client’s deadlines.
  • What design elements should I include on my candles?
We want to make your wedding candle design process as easy as possible. Once we receive your bespoke candle enquiry, we will discuss your design ideas in detail and learn more about exactly what you are looking for. Our aim is to provide you with a bespoke wedding candle design that reflects your individual style, and create a bespoke feel that your guests are sure to love. If you need help selecting the best floral design, candle colour, design elements, we always recommend scheduling a candle consultation so that we can guide you through the candle design process. Popular wedding day details to include in your candle suite are your wedding theme, preferred colour palette, flowers, monogram, wedding crest, wedding stationery, wedding venue, holidays, pets, hobbies, and/or inspiration from our design gallery. You may choose to add some hand lettering to your candles to make these a lovely personal touch related to your wedding day.
  • Is it safe to use the candles at my wedding venue?
Before you request a bespoke wedding candle design, please double-check with your wedding venue regarding any safety regulations or restrictions on open flames. Every venue is different, and you may need to hire or buy deep hurricane glasses if your venue has a ‘no open flame’ policy. We always recommend discussing your candle options with your wedding venue to ensure you comply with their policies, and follow all precautions and restrictions set forth by your venue and local fire authorities. Care and Content Our candles are high-quality, non-drip candles, and are safe to burn as the non toxic paint burns along with the candle. For the best burn experience, please follow all safety measures: 1. Ensure your candle is placed on a heat-safe surface, and placed in a fire-resistant candle holder 2. Keep candles away from other table centrepieces and styling elements 3. Before each burn, we recommend trimming the wick to 1/4" in length 4. Use a snuffer or spoon to put out candles 5. Do not allow wick trimmings, dust, or other materials to accumulate in the wax pool. Remove any material from the previous burn. 6. For longevity, allow the candle to burn until the wax pool melts all the way to the edge on the first use (for large pillar candles this may take several hours). This will create a 'memory burn', which will help the candle to continue to burn evenly for future burns and prevent tunnelling. 7. Keep large pillar candles away from drafts. Drafts can disrupt the formation of the wax pool and cause uneven burning.
